Handicapped Parking Reform Passes
Columbia, SC - State Senator Vincent Sheheen (D-Camden)issued the following statement today on the passage of the Handicapped Parking Reform Act of 2009, S.126. The law is meant to ensure handicapped parking decals and placards are issued to drivers who are really in need. It is also aimed at eliminating abuse of handicap parking spaces.
"We've worked for three years to pass this reform. Too many people are abusing the current decal system. This new law puts safeguards in place for folks who are truly in need of the easy access they deserve. It helps keep truly handicapped citizens from circling a parking lot searching for a parking space," said Sheheen.
